Following a successful tasting event at last year's The Drinks Industry Trade Show in Sydney, US-based Westward Whiskey has hit the Australian market.

The tasting event showcased a range of whiskys, including brands from a number of small American distilleries looking to break into the thriving Australian market.

Westward American single malt whisky is brewed and distilled in Portland, Oregon home of numerous successful boutique craft beer breweries.

Westward’s team of brewers and distillers embraced the American craft beer philosophy, fermenting at low temperatures for extended periods of time using ale yeast to produce spicy, bright and fruity notes in the whisky.

According to the Distilled Spirits Council, the American national trade association representing the leading producers of distilled spirits in the US, Bourbon, Tennessee Whiskey and American Rye Whisky are all enjoying a boom.

Australians are leaning towards premium brands and cocktail consumption, which is offering new opportunities for US whisky companies, especially boutique brands.

Westward is 90 proof (45% ABV), and has an RRP of $129.99 for 700ml.
