It’s that time of year when Food & Drink Business joins forces with market research firm IBISWorld to compile our Top 100 Australian Food & Beverage Companies report – a comprehensive list of the nation’s largest food and drink manufacturers based on their most recently reported revenues.

According to IBISWorld, many of the major company movements could be attributed to some key industry trends in 2015/16:

  • Two of the most successful categories among the Top 100 companies were dairy and infant formula providers, according to IBISWorld, as well as meat processing companies and abattoirs.

  • Many meat companies that moved up the ranks were helped along by drought conditions in eastern Australia.

  • Confectionery companies like Ferrero and Lindt also did well, benefiting from changing consumer tastes and trends towards premium products, resulting in strong revenue growth.

  • Wine companies Casella and TWE benefited from growth in export markets, especially in Asia.

  • The extension of the sugar season due to unseasonal rainfall in July 2015 benefited Tully Sugar.
