A new FODMAP-friendly food range has been created by dietitian Dr Sue Shepherd.
The new range includes paella and green curry meal kits as well as Slow Cooked Vegetable Stock, pasta sauces (Red Wine & Italian Herbs Tomato Pasta Sauce and Slow Roasted Vegetables Tomato), and soups (Roasted Pumpkin + a Hint of Sage Soup and Lamb & Vegetable).
Shepherd says this is the world's first range dedicated to low FODMAP food, and it aims to provide a complete “tastes like homemade” solution to cooking and convenience meals.
FODMAP is an acronym that stands for fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides and polyols, which are found in everyday foods such as grains, vegetables, fruit, milk-based products and other foods like low-carb sports bars, sugar-free chewing gum, legumes, lentils, and honey.
The Sue Shepherd products are made without any onion or garlic, and are also gluten free and free of added artificial colours, flavours and preservatives.
The range, which launched recently into the health food section of Coles nationally, has been selling incredibly well, Shepherd says.
“We are thrilled to bits,” she told Food & Drink Business. “The hard work and leap of faith has been worth it.”
Shepherd, who is director of Australia’s largest gastrointestinal nutrition specialist dietetic practice, Shepherd Works, is recognised internationally as a leading expert in coeliac disease and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
The Low FODMAP diet has been found to assist in managing the symptoms of IBS.
Other local food companies, including Kez’s Kitchen, also use the FODMAP-friendly logo, a government-approved labelling system initiated by Shepherd, on some of their products.
